Sydney Masada Unit was instituted in February 2007, and made up of members from Sydney Lodge, Sydney Chapter and Masada Unit.
Sydney Lodge was the first B'nai B'rith entity in Australia, established in 1944.
We number approximately 150 members of senior age – the reason for the merger.
In spite of senior age, we continue to participate and help in every avenue of B’nai B’rith, through -
* lecture evenings of high quality twice a month – one evening at the BB Centre and one afternoon at the Rose Bay Retirement Village;
* continuing to provide residents of the Montefiore Home with music and afternoon tea, both at Hunters Hill and Randwick – 8 times a year;
* volunteer help in the Bargain Bazaar;
* financial help and assistance to many worthy causes;
* scholarships and support to Jewish day schools;
* welfare and visiting the sick when needed;
* ongong support for Israel;
* collecting memorabilia of members.
Through its charitable trust, Sydney Masada distributes its funds to charities (Jewish and non-Jewish alike), including Jewish schools, medical research, Magen David Adom, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Courage to Care, Jewish Care, JCA, and to a variety of Israeli projects.
Out of the merged membership there is a vast accumulation of experience which is shared in the B’nai B’rith community, and we continue representation in most B’nai B’rith projects.
