What is B’nai B’rith?
Founded in the United States, B’nai B’rith is a world-wide Jewish community service organisation, bringing together people of the Jewish faith from all walks of life, without regard for background, level of religious belief or practice, social or economic circumstances.
Through its membership base and network of volunteer supporters, B'nai B'rith is involved in a wide range of activities in the areas of human rights and anti-discrimination, promoting inter-ethnic and inter-religious understanding, social justice, community welfare, youth and young adults, senior citizens' housing, education and health, and support for the State of Israel. Far from concerning ourselves only with the Jewish community, most of these projects reach out into the wider world for the benefit of all Australians and New Zealanders.
B’nai B’rith has accredited NGO status at the United Nations in both New York and Geneva, and maintains representative offices in Jerusalem through the B’nai B’rith World Centre, and in Brussels to deal with issues relating to the European Union.
The words B’nai B’rith translate as Children of the Covenant.
